hello theatre lovers…………..
Thanks Mahesh!
we will get back to you as soon as possible
After many years, I have got back to Kolkata and would like to catch-up with the arts and culture scene. I would very much like to see Madhabi, Agnyatobaas, Jaha Chai, Kanyadan (?)… or any of the other current productions the group or individuals like Swatilekha Sengupta, Goutam Halder, Debshankar Halder or Sohini Sengupta Halder may be involved in.
Unfortunately, I only get to know about the productions on the very day of staging when it is too late most of times to plan (.e.g. Madhabi : February 24 at Academy of Fine Arts; 6.30 pm: Nandikar presents Madhabi. Drama: Bhisma Sahni. Adaptation, music & direction: Swatilekha Sengupta. Cast: Rudraprasad Sengupta, Debshankar Halder, Parthapratim Deb, Sumanta Ganguly and Sohini Sengupta. Timeout, The Telegraph dt 24 Feb 2011). Is there anyway to have an advance intimation on the various scheluded staging dates, so that one can plan and catch up with the shows ?
Thanks & regards
Dear Mr Basu,
Your order seems to be rather tall because some of the Theatre and personalities of your interest do not belong to Nandikar’s repertoire/repertory.
Telegraph in its time out notifies theatre performance of diverse groups, including Nandikar, well ahead of the Day. Almost all the groups carry adds for about five to seven days in Anandabazar Patrika and at the Academy of Fine Arts you shall find a booklet carrying information about entire month’s theatre.
I will communicate your enthusiasm to Swatilekha Sengupta, Sohini Sengupta and Debsankar Halder. Goutam Halder is no longer in Nandikar. Kanyadan is not Nandikar’s production.
Hoping to meet you,
Rudraprasad Sengupta.
Would like to enquire if you have any provision for teaching to young children. My daughter is 10 yr old and she is very much interestedto learn…thanks and regards
Dear Tilottama,
I presume you are talking about teaching of theatre. If so, Nandikar runs a Children’s Ensemble every Sunday at Federation Hall (diagonally opposite to Rajabazar Science College). Children in the age group of 9-13 get a playful exposure from 10 am – 12 noon.
For further details, get to 2555 4946. I am sure your daughter would enjoy being with us.
Regards,
Rudraprasad Sengupta.
I am very helpful from nandikar group
coz I am the students of Guidance Academy and the nandikar group came to G.academy to create a theater…So I am very helpful for this….
Dear Srinjoy,
Indeed, the Guidance Academy and your sweet self have been very helpful to Nandikar by allowing us to work with you. We are grateful to know that you enjoyed it and remembered the experience. Keep in touch with Theatre.
Fond regards,

Please give me of the famous past productions of NANDIKAR
I do not understand what you want to know about our past productions! Please reach us at 2555 4946.
Warm regards,
Rudraprasad Sengupta
Being a theatre lover, I have watched various theatres by Nandikar….want to know if there are any archive or tape of the past famous productions like ” Natyokar er sondhane chhoti choritro”,”Bhalo Manush”, “Tin Poisar Pala”,”Monjori amer Monjori” etc…I have not seen any of them..
Dear Deepanjan.
Sorry for the delay. I was away to Delhi.
No, we donot have documentation of the plays you’ve mentioned. Doordarshan has Manjari in full and some song-dance sequence from Tin Poyshar Pala or Bhalo Manush.
Frankly, Theatre is live, CD is synthetic two dimensional. They never communicate the way theatre does!
Regards, Rudraprasad
Thanks!!!
u r hosting play Madhabi on 16Mar11 at Minerva theatre. Pl let me know if this is Hindi play oor Bangla play.
Dear P K Mishra
Nandikar’s Madhabi is basically in Bengali, the source being Bhisham Sahni’s Hindi play Madhabi. But I can suggest that Theatre has its own language and good theatre always communicate to anyone and everyone. Check up with Bengali Madhabi please.

the website could have a lot of improvements !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Arka Dutta,
Thanks a lot for your observation regarding a whole lot of improvements i our Website. When every Tom, Dick & Harry does have a workable website, how come Nandikar could not do so in so many years. And now that Nandikar has started to shape one, it lacks very many things. Because our desire is higher than the usual, because we are terribly busy almost all the while.
One may ask, why then such a hurry to bring out the website still not satisfactory. There are very many reasons, one important reason being evoking responses from people like you.
Now that, Mr Arka Dutta, you have bluntly assessed the limitations of our website, may I bluntly ask you to kindly come forward with the suggestions as to how to improve this site? That would be great help.
Thanks,
RPS
Dear Arka,
Thanks for your inputs. We, the admins of the site, very much agree with you. The site is a work in progress and we hope to come full-fledged sometime in April. Hope you will like it in its new form.
We, the admins of the site, are very sorry to have kept your comments in the moderation panel all this while. There were some technical issues at our end. Hopefully things will get smooth from here on. Nandikar will answer your queries very soon.
I am pursuing research on Indian Theatre. In this connection, I have some queries and to meet up those, I intend to communicate with the great theatre person hon’ble Rudraprasad Sengupta. May I get his E-mail ID and Cell no. If I am provided with that, I’ll be greatly helped.
Dear Soumitra,
Of course, I shall try to be useful to your research. But I have two problems :
1. Running an oganization of nearly 50 heads affords me hardly any time when I can at least respond to people like you.
2.I am hardly an academic.
Let us meet sometime in late April.
Till then, warm regards,
R P S
Hello
It was really a nice and pleasant experience to go through your website and blog!! Nandikar has been always an inspiration!
I liked Madhavi and am a great admirer of Sohini. All the best.
A C
Dear Abanti,
Heartening to know that you appreciate Madhabi, Sohini, even the website which, as of now, skeletal, to say the least.
I wish you the very best, Rudraprasad
Hi
Thanks for your reply… according to me Sohini is a complete actor who uses her skill with her instinct. I have seen a solo performance at Madhusudan Manch, in the Nandipot Women’s theatre festival. I was mesmerized by her performance. She is certainly a director’s delight!
AC
Its weird..I have grown up watching you people… On and off I have passed ur residence, as I stay very near to ur place! I have watched ur performances..and as always was left dumb-struck! Now what I wishto ask is could I get a chance to work with you? atleast to be a part of some learning program? is it ever possible? anyway…choroibeti..to Nandikar the legendary group!
warm Regards

Hello,
hello
My name is Mica Dvir and I am an Israeli performance artist.
I would like to interest you in two pieces that i recently devised and performed in.
The pieces – “VOICE-OVER” and “FIN-LAND” – are live-art performances that deal with themes such as the relationship between performer and audience; the attempt to create a perfect experience; and the attachment to ideas and memories.
Both pieces were performed with much success, over the last months, in Tel-Aviv’s major fringe theater “Tmuna”.
I would be very interested in performing at the ( name of festival) festival.
In order to learn more about my work and watch some videos, please, visit my web site:
http://www.micadvir.com
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you,
Mica Dvir.
Dear Mica,
You and your work seem to be fascinating. Just months back I was invited to a festival to Tel-Aviv . As there were to hosts Dr. Varda Fish and Israeli Embassy in Delhi — I missed both the birds in the bush.
I’d love to meet you(both in Kolkata and Tel-Aviv ), I would love to invite you to Nandikar Festival. But presently I am busy with so many works that I cannot attend to your video & other things for quit some time . Permit me to get back when I am comparatively free.
Regards,
Rudraprasad
Dear Nandikar Team,
I am a student of South Asian studies from Germany and would like to write my Masters thesis about the adaptation and staging of Brecht in West Bengal. As Nandikar has translated and produced Brechts plays, I would like to know if there are any print versions of those plays available. I am specially interested in the pieces “bhalomanush” and “tin poyshar pala”.
I would be greatful to get information about those printed version and how to purchase them. Please also let me know if those translations include a bibliography.
With the best wishes from Germany,
Yasemin Eckert
Dear Yasemin,
I am in the midst of three small productions, along with usual fund huntings, besides 8 to 10 performances a month. Your queries deserve a lot of attention . Please permit me to get back to you after a few days.
With warm regards,

Respected Sir,
I am Puja Bhattacharyya from Baidyabati, Hooghly, a girl of 20. I am completing my B.Sc from Presidency College. I dream of being an actress in broadly-viewed story-telling medium such as theater and movies.I don’t possess any experience in the concerned field, nor do I have any training or attended any acting classes. My earnest desire was to pursue Masters in Acting at FTII, Pune. But unfortunately they have announced the year 2011 as a zero year, which means there will be no intake of students in any course at that institute, this year.
I want a guidance from veteran personality regarding how to commence my journey towards fulfilling my dream. Is there any academy that gives sound and fruitful training to adult males and females in the ground of acting? Will attending casting calls or auditions with my photos or portfolio be of any use? Hope you will be kind enough to make me know where to start my path from.

Sir, I need a little help from you….5months back…I’ve posted a comment on behalf of my friend in this website as he was interested in acting..I didn’t noticed the phone number…so I thought that the form here must be your private messege box…but now its been appeared at google and its been publicly viewed at your website also…My friend is very reserved and now he just want to remove that comment from your site as it has caused a trouble at his house as well as to me also…and hedon’t want anyone else(relatives, friends) to see it…the problem is whenevr he types his name at google..the comment appears..Now he is very frustrated, worried as some of his relatives already started to tease him as he is interested in acting….and all these happened for me…so its his request to delete that comment as soon as you can….he will contact you through your telephone number for acting….plzz delete that comment sir and your reply to the comment also…the comment was posted on february 18/11 at 4:04pm…and I will be very pleased to you if you kindly delete this messege also and inform me at my email address(given in this mail)…..I will hopefully wait for your reply. Take care.
Dear Ayan,
Your friend Kaustav had expressed his desire to try theatre. Actually, this world is a stage and we are all all mere actors (Shakespeare). That Theatre as an art has continued to exist world-wide is because ‘we are theatre’ (Augusto Boal). So I donot think Kaustav was in anyway ridiculous when he felt passionate about theatre. In fact, his friends and relatives should feel proud about his ambitions instead of teasing him. For example, if someone said ‘I want to be a doctor’, none would tease him. It is a paradox that theatre is considered lowly or funny or ridiculous by some people. I think these people donot know anything about theatre, to them, theatre is only exhibitionism or narcissistic. TheaTRE HAS NOT TAUGHT ME TO TEASE ANYONE. otherwise, I would have teased these people.
Again, it is easy to suppress Kaustav from my page. But Kaustav has come out in public. he should be ready to face the public. Otherwise, in larger cases or more serious issues, he will always back out whenever somebody says something in contradiction. SO, LET Kaustav be there where he himself entered. Let him face it and let him GROW UP.
All the best to you and Kaustav.
Affectionately, Rudraprasad
I understand what you’ve written….and its correct…but the main thing is that he did not entered himself there….I did it….I posted the comment over there….I am extremely hurt that you haven’t kept my request…its maybe you don’t have any idea what has happened between us….why should someone suffer for me….?? I request you to please delete that post and your reply also…..plzz do it for my friendship….please keep my request for the first and last time….we are just like your grandson….so I beg of you to please delete it….a problem has occurred between us….so I’m requesting you to delete that comment…as you’ve said that it is very easy to remove that comment from your page…this time plzz keep my request sir….for our friendship….I’m extremely sorry….but plzz delete it….it is necessary,,,otherwise I wouldn’t request you to delete it….plzz delete it and free me…I hope this time you’ll not hurt me…yours faithfully, ayn.
sir….why aren’t you deleting that comment…..plzz plzz delete it….plzz….plzz keep our request for the first and last time….we’ll never ever disturb you….you’ll never hear from us also….plzz delete it and free us….plzz
Mr. Rudraprasad Sengupta has much better things to do. So can you just leave him out of your personal problems? And grow up plzz, plzz, plzz
Is ‘MULYA FEROT” a new production?
Watched “Mulya Ferot’ on 6th at GIRISH MANCHA, Wonderful experience! Kanchan Amin especially was superb as Janardan.
Loved “TOMAR NAAM’ as well. Sohini Sengupta is such a genius!
Thanks.. Thanks… Thanks..
This was Kanchan’s debut in a central role . He would be encouraged for being acclaimed. Of course Sohini is a wonderful actress , perhaps the best of West Bengal. But ‘genius’ is a premature adjective her best is yet to be. While appreciating Tomar Naam , you have forgotten Swatilekha ; it was her text, her music, her direction. In theatre the invisible powers are not remember , Actors still all the lime lights. Thanks again.
Regards,
Rudraprasad
Apologies for not mentioning Swatilekha Sengupta’s efforts.
May I was too overwhelmed by Sohini and forgot her. Apart from direction, music of ‘TOMAR NAAM’ truly deserves appaulse. Waiting for more.
Regards
Dear Debarati,
I’ll convey your appreciation of Swatilekha to her. On her behalf I am most happy that she is being admired.
Take Care. Happy Pujas, Rudraprasad

This is NANDIKAR”s space. But I’m still taking the liberty to write a few lines about Sohini and Swatilekha Sengupta’s performances in ‘KANYADAN’. Absolutely mind blowing! The transformation of Sohini’s character from being naive young woman
to a battered wife with stoic resilence is especially praiseworthy. Didn’t like the idea of the play though.

Dear RPS,
Finally managed to see ‘AMAR PRIYO RABINDRANATH’ that too in my para in Salt Lake. Such an enriching experience. Enthralled by team NANDIKAR,
Everyone is so immensely talented. The entire composition, direction, music, choreography-everything was so fine tuned. That’s what we realLy expect from NANDIKAR. Superb! I was particularly impressed by your singing skills. Didn’t know you are such a wonderful singer! As for your performance I don’t possess the minimum quality to assess it. I can only get awestuck again and again.
